Getting Started

New to track days? We've got you covered. Here's everything you need to know to prepare for your first HPDE event with Just Track It.

1

What You Need

Getting on track is simpler than you might think. You don't need a race car or professional equipment-just a well-maintained car and the right safety gear.

A Suitable Car

Your car should be well-maintained. It doesn't have to be a sports car-avoid pickup trucks and SUVs as they're heavy and don't brake well. Brakes are your most important safety feature.

Proper Helmet

An SA2015 or newer Snell-rated helmet is required. Motorcycle helmets (M-rated) and DOT-only helmets are not acceptable. We offer helmet rentals if you don't have one.

Valid License

A current, valid driver's license is required. Drivers must be 16 or older. If you're 16-17, a parent must be present and complete the minor waiver.

Car Numbers

You'll need numbers on the sides of your car for identification. We offer them as an option when you register-they're vinyl and easily removed after.

Convertible Owners

If you have a convertible, it must have rollover protection (factory or aftermarket). You must fit below the windshield and rollbar with your helmet on. Hardtop convertibles are acceptable as-is.

Before the Event

A little preparation goes a long way toward having a great track day experience. Here's your checklist for the week leading up to the event.

  • Get a Tech Inspection

Have your car inspected by a qualified mechanic. Pay special attention to brakes, brake fluid, tires, and any fluid leaks. Download our tech form from the requirements page.

  • Check Your Brake Pads

Track driving is hard on brakes. Ensure you have adequate pad material remaining. If they're getting low, replace them before the event.

  • Verify Your Helmet

Confirm your helmet is SA2015 or newer (check inside the helmet for the Snell sticker). If you need to rent one, select that option during registration.

  • Remove Loose Items

Take out floor mats, garage door openers, change, and anything else that could become a projectile under hard braking or cornering.

  • Pack Essentials

Bring sunscreen, comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, snacks, and plenty of water. A folding chair and canopy are nice to have in the paddock.

Event Day

Here's what to expect when you arrive at the track for your first HPDE event.

Check-In

Arrive early for check-in (gates typically open at 6:30 AM). You'll sign waivers, get your car teched, receive your car numbers, and pick up your wristband.

Novice Classroom

As a novice, you'll attend a mandatory classroom session before hitting the track. We'll cover flags, passing rules, track etiquette, and the driving line.

Meet Your Instructor

You'll be paired with a certified instructor who will ride with you throughout the event. They'll provide real-time coaching to help you improve safely.

Track Sessions

Sessions run throughout the day, rotating through run groups. Each session is typically 20-25 minutes. You'll have time between sessions to debrief with your instructor, hydrate, and let your brakes cool.

Lunch Break

There's usually a one-hour lunch break. We provide lunch for instructors, and there are often food options available for purchase at the track.
